Transcribe! Help : Vocal Elimination

The most valuable tool for Vocal (or other instrument) elimination is the Stereo Mix command. This command can be used (as described on its own page) to emphasize or minimise any one instrument or voice. Unfortunately it's no use on mono recordings, but on stereo recordings it can be very effective depending on how the track was recorded.

Once you've done what you can with this, you should try the EQ Filter command. There are 5 bands provided simply in order to allow plenty of flexibility if you want it, but much of the time you don't need anything like this much. For minimising one instrument a good starting point is to switch off all but one mid-channel, set that mid channel to a big cut (-20dB) and adjust the width and frequency of that channel to minimise the instrument you want. The graphical display is calibrated in notes (C1, C2 etc) so you can see what notes you're affecting. There is a limit to what can be achieved as the ranges of the various instruments and their harmonics overlap a lot.
